The Shire of Ashburton is proud to announce the renewal of the Working Together Onslow Partnership Agreement for 2026–2028, reaffirming its long‑standing collaboration with the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project to deliver meaningful community programs and events for the Onslow community

Since 2015, the partnership has provided consistent annual funding to support a wide range of initiatives including community belonging events, school holiday programs, youth initiatives, club development, and commemorative and cultural events such as ANZAC Day, NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week. The partnership has played a key role in fostering a connected, inclusive and vibrant community, aligned with the Shire’s My Pilbara Home strategies.

Under the proposed new agreement, the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project’s annual contribution will increase to $220,000 per calendar year, including continued support for flagship events such as the Passion of the Pilbara community festival.

Shire President Audra Smith said the partnership has delivered strong outcomes for the Onslow community over several years.

“Working Together for Onslow is an important partnership that helps us deliver programs and events that strengthen connection, belonging and participation in our community.

“This agreement provides stability and certainty, allowing the Shire and our partners to plan ahead and deliver initiatives that reflect what matters most to the Onslow community. We value Chevron’s continued commitment and the collaborative approach that ensures these programs are meaningful, well coordinated and sustainable,” said President Smith.

Wheatstone Production Manager Brett McCarthy said Chevron was proud to continue their longstanding partnership with the Shire of Ashburton through the Working Together for Onslow agreement.

“Chevron has a long-term commitment to the community of Onslow, and we are invested in working as a trusted partner to support and foster a thriving local community,” he said.

“We’re pleased to continue supporting initiatives that bring people together, including the muchloved Passion of the Pilbara festival, a highlight on the Pilbara calendar. Through partnerships like this, we aim to help support a strong, connected and resilient Onslow.”

The Shire of Ashburton looks forward to continuing to work alongside Chevron and other community stakeholders to deliver impactful community development initiatives that support a strong and thriving Onslow.
